Case Study: Empowering Survivors through Tailored Confidence and Empowerment Workshops
Marie Collins Foundation is a UK-based charity that supports children and families affected by online child abuse.
The foundation’s core focus is on helping survivors recover from the trauma of their experiences and advocating for policy and practice changes that improve outcomes for future victims.
As part of her role, Megan amplifies the voices of survivors, ensuring they are at the heart of everything the charity does.
Challenges
The survivors working with the Marie Collins Foundation often face significant emotional challenges, including feelings of imposter syndrome, shame, and guilt. Many survivors struggle with confidence when speaking about their experiences and contributing to the foundation’s work. Megan sought to provide these individuals with tools to help them overcome these barriers, empower them in their roles, and improve their overall well-being.
The Solution
Megan approached Wintle-Camp Coaching, having heard about their expertise through word-of-mouth recommendations. We designed and delivered an in-person workshop in July, tailored to the unique needs of the survivors. The workshop focused on confidence building, empowerment, and overcoming imposter syndrome. Our approach incorporated practical, hands-on exercises, as well as creative and interactive methods that resonated with the group, where many were neurodiverse.
Key Aspects of the Workshop
Empowerment & Confidence Building: We focused on equipping the survivors with tools to overcome self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and feelings of shame and guilt.
Interactive & Neurodiverse-Friendly Activities: The workshop was structured to engage everyone, incorporating creative elements, movement, drawing, and discussions, ensuring that each participant felt included and empowered.
Tangible Takeaways: Participants left the workshop with practical tips and exercises they could use in their daily lives to maintain confidence and combat negative self-talk.
Inclusive and Adaptable Approach: We demonstrated our flexibility by tailoring the workshop to the specific needs of the group, ensuring that sensitive issues were handled with care and compassion.
Results
The workshop had a profound impact on the survivors, both personally and professionally:
Increased Confidence: Participants reported feeling more confident in their ability to share their experiences and advocate for change. They left with a stronger sense of self-worth and a renewed belief in their ability to contribute meaningfully to the foundation’s work.
Practical Tools for Overcoming Challenges: The group gained valuable tools to combat imposter syndrome and manage their emotions, which they continue to use in their professional and personal lives.
Improved Group Dynamics: The workshop opened up new lines of communication among the survivors, fostering a sense of trust and support within the group. The creative exercises encouraged them to share more openly and connect on a deeper level.
Lasting Impact: One particularly impactful exercise involved participants writing affirmations about each other, which they kept as reminders of their strengths. This activity continues to serve as a source of motivation and encouragement for the survivors.
“We worked with Wintle-Camp Coaching to provide a confidence and empowerment workshop for our lived experience group, made up of survivors of online abuse. The training was transformative, providing participants with tangible tools to overcome imposter syndrome and feelings of guilt and shame. They tailored the workshop to the unique needs of our neurodiverse group, ensuring everyone felt included and supported. The feedback from the survivors has been overwhelmingly positive, with many continuing to use the exercises and techniques they learned. I highly recommend Wintle-Camp Coaching for their compassionate, adaptable, and impactful approach to training.”
