Case Study: Elevating Leadership and Skills Development with Wintle-Camp Coaching

Carolyn Hinton is the Manager of the Hampshire Construction Training Association (HCTA), a not-for-profit organisation comprising over 30 companies involved in various aspects of the construction industry. HCTA members range from large SMEs to smaller businesses, representing a wide spectrum of trades such as civil engineering, shopfitting, and decorating.

HCTA prioritises health and safety, upskilling, and creating a productive working environment for both their employees and subcontractors. In pursuit of these goals, HCTA engaged Wintle-Camp Coaching to help develop leadership and management skills across the organisation.

Challenges

HCTA faced a number of challenges before working with us, including:

  • Leadership Development: Many members of HCTA needed training to move into supervisory or managerial roles, but lacked confidence and formal leadership skills.

  • Upskilling Employees: The construction industry has a wide array of trades, and members required ongoing professional development to ensure a safe and skilled workforce.

  • COVID-19 Impact: The pandemic introduced new challenges, including the need for online training and maintaining employee engagement through virtual platforms.

The Development Process

Carolyn first encountered Monique through a colleague and began by participating in an individual course aimed at building personal confidence. This initial positive experience led to a broader partnership, with Wintle-Camp Coaching designing and delivering a range of courses to meet the diverse needs of HCTA members.

We offered a variety of tailored programs, including:

1. Leadership and Management Development: Covering core skills such as time management, communication, and coaching for senior managers.

2. Personal Development: Courses like "Building Your Confidence" and "Social Selling" helped participants develop essential soft or as we like to call them ‘human’ skills.

3. Custom Business Skills: We worked with HCTA to provide specialised training in storytelling for business, communication strategies, and supervisory skills.

Results

The partnership with Wintle-Camp Coaching yielded impressive outcomes, both for individual participants and the broader organisation:

  • Increased Confidence: Several participants transitioned from hands-on roles to supervisory and managerial positions, with many reporting a newfound sense of confidence that helped them "step up" in their careers.

  • Improved Performance: HCTA members who completed the training saw measurable improvements in their work, contributing to safer, more effective job sites and enhanced business operations.

  • Engaged Learning: Despite initial concerns about virtual learning, Wintle-Camp Coaching’s online courses were highly successful, with participants remaining engaged and benefiting from the interactive, human-centred approach.

Key Takeaways

Wintle-Camp Coaching stands out for its personalised and human-centred approach to development. Whether in person or online, we create an environment where every participant feels seen and supported. The range of courses offered, from confidence building to leadership development, has been instrumental in helping HCTA members grow both personally and professionally.

"Monique and her team at Wintle-Camp Coaching have been fantastic to work with. We've used their services for a wide range of courses, from senior management training to more grassroots development. What sets Wintle-Camp Coaching apart is their ability to make every participant feel like the training is designed just for them, whether it's online or in person. We've had employees step up from on-the-tools roles into management, thanks to the confidence and skills they've gained. I can't recommend them enough for any organisation looking to invest in their team."
